Menlo Park
Set between San Francisco and San Jose, Menlo Park enjoys views of the Bay to the east and the Pacific Coastal Range to the west. It was named in 1854 for the landowners’ Irish home of Menlough. The name became official in 1863, when the newly arrived railroad used it for the local station—now the oldest in continuous operation in California. The train quickly replaced the stagecoach for San Francisco barons off to their country homes. Today, Menlo Park is a city of tree-lined neighborhoods and busy commercial districts. Known worldwide as the Capital of Venture Capital, it’s ideally situated to link with Silicon Valley markets. Major employers include SRI International, Meta (formerly Facebook), Pacific Biosciences, E*TRADE and CSBio Co.
