Los Altos
Famous as the site of the garage where Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built the first 50 Apple computers, Los Altos (“The Heights”) started as an agricultural town of summer cottages and apricot orchards. In 1906, a Southern Pacific Railroad executive spearheaded its development as a San Francisco commuter town. Today, Los Altos strives to preserve its small village atmosphere. The historic downtown shopping and dining area hosts a full calendar of family activities. Los Altos is known for its highly regarded schools, both public and private. Redwood Grove, a 5.9-acre nature preserve, has revitalized the area’s native trees and grasses and created a habitat for local wildlife.
