Fremont
Set in the East Bay region of the Bay Area, Fremont is known in Silicon Valley as “the hardware side of the Bay” for its innovative roots in advanced manufacturing, starting with the GM auto assembly lines of the 1960s. Decades later, the first Mac computer was manufactured by Apple in Fremont. Today, Tesla and data storage giant Seagate are among the companies based here. The city began as five townships that merged into five metro districts. Today, each retains its uniquely vibrant character. There’s plenty to explore, from a thriving arts scene, stunning parks and hiking vistas to beautiful Lake Elizabeth, Central Park, and Mission San José, where the original town arose in the 1800s.
